Here is my round-up of local news for the week 3 – 9 October —

The road works to improve pedestrian and cycle provision around Old Road and The Slade are causing bad congestion. The whole junction will be closed next week and traffic diverted around Wood Farm, York Road and Margaret Road. Discussion on the e-dem forum predicts complete chaos and/or gridlock.

The Oxford Kebab House on London Road closed last week. They are moving to a larger shop at 1 Manzil Way (on the Cowley Road) [photo c/o @Ox_Matt].

Thornhill Park & Ride is filling up very early. There’s speculation it may be a result of parking charges being re-introduced at the other P&Rs (except Water Eaton).

There were two thefts and a robbery in Headington – on Old Road, London Road and Osler Road. @TVP_Oxford have appealed for witnesses or information.

The Headington shark featured on Radio 4 on Saturday morning.

Dr Yenugula Srinivas, who worked as a locum at Bury Knowle surgery (among other places), appeared in court to face 11 charges of sexual assault.

A 90-year old man was robbed of £700 by a team of distraction burglars in Marston Road on Tuesday. Police are appealing for witnesses or sightings, and warning others to be on their guard.

After developing a bamboo-framed road bike, @oxford_brookes in collaboration with Yorkshire-based RAW Bamboo Bikes have developed a bamboo mountain bike.

Headington Headlines #31

Here is my round-up of local news for the week 19 – 25 September. Sorry if I’ve missed any stories while I was away.

There was a big mains burst in Old Road on the Shotover side of the junction with Quarry Road.

An outline planning application was submitted to demolish the derelict house at 29 Old High Street and replace it with 5 three-storey terraced houses.

The new Bury Knowle Park play area was oficially opened on Friday.

The first Oxford half-marathon on Sunday attracted around 2000 runners. It passed through Headington Quarry and along Quarry Road, Old Road, Warneford Lane and Morrell Avenue before diving off to the Iffley Road. Here’s a map of the route.

A proposal to link the Barton West development to Northway with a new bus service triggered opposition from Northway residents.

@Oxford_brookes Freshers’ Fair took place this week.

A man was beaten up outside the Shell garage in Headington.
