Headington Headlines #34

Here is my round-up of local news for the week 10 – 16 October —

Nothing’s ever straightforward when the owner of 29 Old High Street’s involved. The planning application to redevelop on the site of the derelict house has been ‘deemed invalid’ by the City Council’s Planning Department and has been withdrawn.

@OxfordCity Council’s North-East Area Forum was on Wednesday evening.

The trial of Dr Yenugula Srinivas continued. Although the press usually like “sex pest doctor” stories, this trial is surprisingly under-reported.

The Dunstan Road speed bumps hve been given the all clear. It’s thought they will have the intended effect when combined with new road markings. Another bump appeared at the junction of Woodlands and Sandfield Roads: it’s purpose is not clear. The on-going row in Old Headington over the White Hart’s bins seems to have been resolved.

Also in Old Headington, a blue plaque commemorating Salvador de Madariaga was unveiled at 3 St Andrew’s Road by his daughter Professor Isabel de Madariaga. Esther Rantzen was the celebrity mystery guest. Picture.

Central North Headington Residents’ Association

One of our local Residents’ Associations, the Central North Headington RA, has its AGM on Monday 7 November at 7.30pm in Lecture Theatre 1 at the JR Hospital. They are appealing for help running the Association, and particularly for people willing to serve on the Committee to come forward. If you live in the area covered by the CNHRA (see this handy map) why not go along to the meeting, show you’re interested, and talk to the Chair or Secretary about helping keep the Association going. Otherwise it’s is in danger of folding.

Headington Headlines #33

Here is my round-up of local news for the week 3 – 9 October —

The road works to improve pedestrian and cycle provision around Old Road and The Slade are causing bad congestion. The whole junction will be closed next week and traffic diverted around Wood Farm, York Road and Margaret Road. Discussion on the e-dem forum predicts complete chaos and/or gridlock.

The Oxford Kebab House on London Road closed last week. They are moving to a larger shop at 1 Manzil Way (on the Cowley Road) [photo c/o @Ox_Matt].

@RuthWilk wants to know if you like the idea of a craft fair in Headington. Contact her with your thoughts.

Thornhill Park & Ride is filling up very early. There’s speculation it may be a result of parking charges being re-introduced at the other P&Rs (except Water Eaton).

There were two thefts and a robbery in Headington – on Old Road, London Road and Osler Road. @TVP_Oxford have appealed for witnesses or information.

The Headington shark featured on Radio 4 on Saturday morning.
