Second round of consultation

Since the Access to Headington scheme was first announced and the public’s views invited in July and August last year, the County and their consultants have been doing detailed investigations and surveys to refine their early ideas and start getting down to detail. They have announced a series of public exhibitions to show the latest plans and invite comments. The dates and venues are:

  • Saturday 27 February, 10am – 4pm
St Anthony’s of Padua, 115 Headley Way, Oxford OX3 7SS
  • Wednesday 2 March, 2 – 8pm
Wood Farm School, Titup Hall Drive, Oxford OX3 8QQ
  • Thursday 3 March, 11am – 6pm
Old Road Campus Research Building, Oxford, OX3 7DQ
  • Saturday 5 March, 10am – 4pm
St. Andrew’s Primary School, London Road, Oxford OX3 9ED

We will have to wait and see how far they have been able to reconcile the feedback they had earlier with the overall objectives of the project.

My earlier posts on Access to Headington are under the ‘Transport Plans/Access 2H’ tab. The County’s own Access to Headington page is here.

Your weekly round-up of local news for 25 – 31 January.

I have no further news about the Energy Project this week. So far only one public comment appears on the Council’s website – an objection based on a claim that Vital Energi have no right to excavate in sub-soil owned by the frontagers of the properties past which the pipes will run. All my posts about the project are under the ‘Energy Project’ tab in the main menu, and there’s a page of links and contact details here.

Work has started to make a new Post Office in the Co-op. The opening date is now Monday 15 February.

Shopfitters have started work on the new Post Office in the Co-op.

The Planning Review Committee on Wednesday gave planning permission for the Latimer Road student housing, subject to the developers coming up with a satisfactory solution to screen Headington Prep School from being overlooked. People are now concerned about the timing of the construction possibly coinciding with the heatpipe road works, but at present there’s no information on the timing of either.

Headington’s contribution to the Cecil Rhodes statue debate:

Headington Pet and Garden Store (it’s on the corner of Stile Road opposite the Co-op) is closing down.

My favourite Headington-related tweet of the week – is that David Beckham outside the chip-shop in Barton?

Lloyds Bank was the scene of an armed robbery on Saturday morning. Police say two masked men, one with a firearm, escaped in a white BMW. The same bank was robbed almost exactly three years ago (thanks to @HeadingtonNews for that link).

The Latimer Road student accommodation planning appplication goes to the City’s Planning Scrutiny Committee on Wednesday. It has been ‘called in’ after being rejected by the East Area Planning Committee, despite officers’ recommendation to accept. The papers for the Committee are here, with the details in the Agenda Reports Pack and a set of slides in the Presentation.

Still on planning, there’s an application (ref: 16/00082/FUL) to build three 5-bedroom houses on the site of the Quarry Gate pub.

A search of the Food Standard Agency’s “Scores on the Doors” food hygiene ratings for OX3 finds 204 rated premises. Of those, 10 are rated “2 – Improvement Necessary” or lower. The unhygienic wooden spoon goes to the Londis on Marston Road, rated “0 – Urgent Improvement Necessary” in March last year. Here are the 0 – 2 results with a map. Above a score of 2, the next is “3 – Generally Satisfactory”.
