Plans to develop alongside C S Lewis’s old house in Holyoake Road have resurfaced, this time in the shape of two 5-bedroom houses. See Ref: 15/02096/FUL.

@BartonPark_ has been chosen as one of five experimental “healthy towns” for a trial by the NHS of ideas for encouraging people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

With the support of Cherwell Drive residents, independent councillor Mick Haines has launched a petition against the County’s Access to Headington transport plan.

The now weekly Farmers’ Market on Saturday had live animals (not for sale, I believe).

Headington Headlines #208

Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 30 March – 4 April.

The pub sign at @ButchersArmsOxf blew down in the high winds on Tuesday.

The owners of the Quarry Gate pub have got permission to demolish it (see HH 203).

The deadline for submitting suggestions for new street names for @BartonPark_ has passed, and it’s now up to the City Council to decide.

The Bury Knowle Park sensory garden has been planted.

Night-time closures of the London Road for resurfacing have been announced. Between Monday 27 April and Friday 1 May the road will be closed between Stile Road and the Green Road roundabout. The same stretch will also be closed for two nights on 6 & 7 May.

A man was punched in the face and his phone was smashed in an assault and robbery at a bus stop in Wood Farm on Saturday.

Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 23 – 29 March.

Churches Together in Headington have organised a hustings on 9 April, 8 – 9.30pm in Headington Baptist Church on Old High Street. You can pre-register your questions on their facebook page, where there are more details of the event. There’s a video too, encouraging everyone to turn out, get informed, and vote.

The Manor Surgery in Osler Road is one of three across the County to share in £6.4m funding to expand services. Manor’s £1.2m will pay for six new consultation rooms and two practice nurse rooms. The practice has said it would like to offer space for an out-of-hours service and community-based specialist clinics.

Councillor @RuthWilk has had confirmation from the City Council that the Bury Knowle solar panels are to stay, with some modification to their position.

Blackbird Leys based dance club @MessyJamOxford organised by Barton’s @EshaMessyjam won 147 trophies at in international dance festival in Lincolnshire.

A car fire in Barton Village Road closed the road for a time on Saturday. There were no reports of any injuries.
