Frontier Estates failed to get planning permission for their care home at 1 Pullen’s Lane, but the JR got permission to extend the A&E facility.

Kudos to @OxMailNathanB for spotting that care home operators Baycroft had jumped the gun by including Pullen’s Lane in their portfolio. Here’s a screenshot, as the link will probably go soon!

Police were called to a disturbance at Meadowbrook College in Marston which broke out when they tried to recover a stolen scooter.

Headington Hill Park has a new information board thanks to the Friends of the park.

Japlene, the bespoke dressmakers in Windmill Road, is closing at the end of the year. Owner Polly Hyde started the company in 1980 and they have been in the same premises all that time.

Dr Anandagopal Srinivasan of Sandfield Road, charged last year with a sexual assault at the JR and another at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge (see HH334) is standing trial at Oxford Crown Court. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police have issued a warning about a man knocking on doors in Headington trying to get money with a hard-luck story. If this happens to you the Police ask you to call 999.

Oxford City FC held League 2 Tranmere Rovers to a 3 – 3 draw at Tranmere in the first round of the FA Cup. Kabby Tshimanhga scored a hat-trick. Their reward is a home replay.

The expected planning application by Frontier Estates, locally notorious for their Beech House development, to build a 55 bed care home at 1 Pullen’s Lane has been published on the City Council website, ref: 18/00870/FUL. I’ve updated my timeline of this proposal, and a there is a location map here – the boundaries of the site are not accurate but are the best I could do on Google maps.

Old High Street made the national news – well, The Sun newspaper at least – when the road was blocked by an altercation between a cyclist and a motorist. It all took place in “the village of Heddington”, apparently.

Here’s an enthusiastic description of the 1960s houses on Dunstan Road. Designed by architects Ahrends, Burton and Koralek, they are described as “[walking] a fine line between modernism and brutalism”. One is being sold by @ScottFraserUK at a guide price of £900k.

2000 homes in Quarry and eastern Headington were affected by a Virgin Media loss of service on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The shopkeeper of the Premier store in Salford Road, Marston was threatened with a broken bottle on Tuesday evening. Despite another customer calling the police at the time it was 20 hours before the police responded. Story c/o @TheOxfordMail.

London Road was closed to traffic in both directions from 8pm (actually 7.30pm on Thursday) to 6am overnight on Thursday and Friday nights.

Hmmm. Jacob’s Brasserie is “closed for refurbishment” with no indication of a re-opening date. It looks like Dragon Express has closed too.

A red Honda moped was stolen from the garden of a house in Masons Road, Wood Farm late on Thursday or early Friday. Police are asking for any information.

It’s been a long saga, but the Headington Heatpipe has been turned on.

However, the whole system is not yet fully operational; the CHP (combined heat and power) engine isn’t yet commissioned.

There’s work going on at the ex-pet shop on the corner of Stile Road (opposite the Co-op), but as yet no information about what will be there. On the other side of the road the promised “Grill House Opening Soon” seems to have been on hold for the past month or more.

The shop that was last Morrison’s is to be a branch of franchise operation Heavenly Desserts.

@LeonardoLoredan has been mounting a one-man twitter campaign pointing out continuous breaches of agreed working conditions by Frontier Estates and their contractors Winvic on the Beech House site, Latimer Road.

The Oxford Mail reports that Independent Councillor for Marston, Mick Haines, is raising concerns about sewage flooding from the Barton Park development once people start moving in to the new properties. Provision of foul drainage capacity is a matter for Thames Water, and was a ‘reserved matter’ in the original outline planning permission for what was then West Barton. A Foul Water Strategy was prepared and the East Area Planning Committee approved the corresponding Condition 26 on 11 February 2015. Whether Cllr Haines is crying wolf remains to be seen, but I think I can hear a bandwagon approaching.
