Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 20 – 26 May.

A man was arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was discovered in a house in The Link, Risinghurst. Confusingly (well, it confused me) there’s also a road called The Link in Marston.

Headington area councillors Susan Brown (Lab, Churchill) and @redmikerowley (Lab, Barton & Sandhills) have joined @Oxfordcity‘s Executive Board. Van Coulter (Lab, Barton & Sandhills) has stood down from the Board.

Cllr @delia_sinclair (Lab, Quarry & Risinghurst) took office as Oxford City’s Lord Mayor. She holds the office for 1 year.

The Reverend James Cocke was ordained 60 years ago and is the Church of England’s longest-serving vicar. He has been at All Saints Church since 1957. Former Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams paid tribute to Mr Cocke in a service at the church in his honour.

BBC Oxford’s Big Tour covered the story of Highfield residents being trained to use radar speed guns to discourage speeding in the 20mph zone. On Friday Roz Smith and Patrick Coulter were interviewed about the London Road potholes and there was live coverage from the Farmers’ Market.

Locals are concerned that The Fairview Inn in Glebelands (between the Churchill and The Slade) may close after news broke that it is being sold to an undisclosed buyer after being advertised as “having alternative use potential”. There’s a Save the Fairview website.

An accident at the Headington roundabout in which two vehicles ended up ON the roundabout caused bad delays on Thursday morning.

The by now predictable and tedious story of Martin Young and 29 Old High Street continued with a report in the Oxford Mail. Elsewhere, Councillors have called in a planning application to replace a bungalow at 9 Osler Road with three houses. The application will be considered by the East Area Planning Committee.

Laptops, mobile phones and a camera were stolen from a house in New High Street in a break-in on Thursday.

Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 27 August – 2 September —

The future of the Three Horseshoes pub in Old Marston is in doubt. Landlady Jeanette Cadd who has run the pub for 30 years is retiring. She has planning permission to turn the Grade II listed building – an old smithy – into two dwellings but has said she has not finally decided what to do with the pub, which is a free house. There are two other pubs in Old Marston, the Red Lion and the Victoria Arms.

In the wake of Oxford University completing the purchase of the Park Hospital site to facilitate the University’s development of the Old Road campus, Headington Councillor @RuthWilk called for a Headington masterplan to guide development.

A book by Dawn Griffis covering the history of Headington Hill Hall over the years 1939 – 1958 has been published.

@RyeStAntony School has submitted a planning application (ref 12/02214/FUL) for the erection of single storey extension to provide a new science room and office.

A Headington page has appeared on facebook. It’s nothing to do with me.

A lorry overturned in collision with a car at the Headington roundabout on Friday.

The new Dorset House student accommodation is open for business.

Former Headington School pupil Lily van den Broecke won a gold medal coxing the mixed coxed four at the Paralympics.

Here is my round-up of local news for the week 5 – 11 December —

Like them or loathe them, the Christmas lights in Headington sparked a big debate on the e-democracy forum this week.

Sobell House Hospice (by the Churchill Hospital) benefited from £200 raised by @OxTwitChoir (the Oxford Twitter Choir), organised by @Ox_Bex of Bayswater/Sandhills.

@TVP_Marston hosted a Coffee With Cops meeting at Café Bonjour on Wednesday, giving local people an opportunity to meet their local police team and raise any matters of concern. They report it went well.

The Masons Arms (@TheMasonsArmsHQ) made it to second place in CAMRA’s Oxford City Pub-of-the-Year competition. Far From The Madding Crowd was top.

Oxford City Council granted permission for The Bricklayers Arms in Church Lane, Old Marston, to become a four-bedroom house, with five new homes in the grounds. Oxford Car Audio on Cherwell Drive closed.

Costa Coffee have submitted a planning application (11/03106/FUL) to change the frontage of what was Cartridge World on the London Road. To open a coffee shop they’ll have to get a change of use agreed, which might not be easy.
