Fire crews attended a tumble dryer fire in Foxwell Drive, Northway on Tuesday.

Cllr Nigel Chapman (Headington Hill & Northway) planted a giant sequoia in Headington Hill Park on Wednesday. It’s this year’s planting by the Friends of Headington Hill Park.

Cllr @MarkLygo (Churchill) has described the gym at Barton Leisure Centre as ‘a dump’.

Also in Barton, the city council is holding a consultation exhibition today (10 December) about the redevelopment of Underhill Circus. It’s from 2 – 7 pm and they promise mince pies and hot drinks!

Slightly further afield, South Oxfordshire District Council has put the green belt land between Barton Park and the Elsfield road back into its draft local plan. @headingtonnews has compiled a helpful history of the redevelopment plans for this land.

@TheAmpleforth‘s success in making it through its first year earned the community pub in Risinghurst a page in the Oxford Mail.

The Bayswater and Boundary Brooks and other streams in the city have become dumping grounds for broken, stolen or just plain abused dockless bikes.

Your weekly round-up of local news for 29 October – 4 November.

Police are appealing for information after two burglaries and an attempted third in Merewood Avenus, Sandhills, the weekend before last (27/28 October).

@ProperEllipsis reports that The Somerset in Marston is going to re-open.

The East Area Planning Committee, which meets on Wednesday this week, is being recommended to give planning permission to the expansion of the A&E facilities at the JR Hospital.

The same meeting is being recommended to refuse an application by developers Frontier (they of Beech House notoriety) for permission to build a 55-bed care home at 1 Pullens Lane. The relevant report is 36 pages long, but I’ve extracted the ‘Reasons for Refusal’ section which you can read here.

Construction of the new Ronald McDonald House at the JR will start in December. It will provide free accommodation for families whose children are undergoing treatment at Oxford Children’s Hospital. It is expected to open in summer 2020.

Brookes Restaurant @OBRestaurant was awarded a five-star rating in its latest ‘Scores on the Doors’ food hygiene inspection.

The Oxford Mail published a gallery of old black-and-white photographs of life in Headington.

There will be a public exhibition of plans to redevelop the Ivy Lane flats on the JR site and build more homes at the Churchill. The exhibition is this Tuesday (2 October) from 4 – 7pm at Arthur Sanctuary House, Sandfield Road.

St Andrew’s School @sasastandrews1‘s bid for Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ funding was successful. They can now set up a mobile library!

The refurbished Six Bells pub in Quarry had a soft opening on Friday with a good report from @RosalindRogers. The full opening is expected this week.

Is this the end of rogue parking in Latimer Road?

A technical omission in the original planning permission for Barton Park means the City Council will have to try to amend the timetable for ‘reserved matters’. They will be hoping there are no objections, otherwise there coud be a lengthy delay.
