Headington Headlines #30

Here is my round-up of local news for the week 12 – 18 September —

In a week rather dominated by planning matters, permission for the Manor Ground development of 27 affordable housing units was finally given on Wednesday.

The petition against development of the Headington car park now has over 3400 signatures. Not strictly in the OX3 area, the planning application for development of the St Clement’s car park was rejected. It might still be ‘called in’ for review though.

@TheOxfordMail had another article on the potential sale Warneford Meadow.

The owner of the derelict 29 Old High Street lost his case on appeal. He has to pay a total of £3600 costs and has 6 months to ‘tidy up’ the property. On the brighter side, Business Headington and Partners were awarded Bronze in the Best Small Commercial Display category of Oxford in Bloom.

Dunstan Road speed bumps are less bumpy than they were before the recent road repairs. Inevitably some residents are unhappy. Your LibDem Councillors would like to hear your views. My own road-test report is on the e-dem forum.

@RuthWilk and David Rundle followed up a query from their Headington Focus meeting and as a result the Headington PCSOs will patrol singly until 9:00pm, giving them higher visibility on the streets.

My favorite Headington-related tweet this week:

Serendipitous fans of Oklahoma University’s Headington Hall can watch it being built on this live webcam. I think we should go for a twinning.

Headington Headlines #29

Another quiet week for news in and around Headington. Here is my round-up for the week 5 – 11 September —

Sadly not a first for Headley Way, but the first repatriation by the new route from Brize Norton was well attended throughout including at our local assembly point of St Anthony of Padua. The Oxford Mail estimated just under 300 were there to pay their respects. @headingtonnews has posted some photos.

@BartonOxford announced that work on a new £150k children’s play area in Barton is due to start on Sept 12 as part of the Play Barton scheme

Northway Pharmacy will be moving to Cherwell Drive next month to the site which was previously Spink Insurance.

The Department of Health has decided to sell Warneford Meadow. Here are links for more about the Meadow’s history and the Friends.

Headington Headlines #28

Here is my round-up of local news for the week 29 August – 4 September —

In an otherwise rather quiet week, the University’s Old Road Campus development proposals were agreed by the Planning Review Committee on Wednesday and look set to go ahead.

BT Infinity hi-speed broadband is available in Headington (at least, it is in my bit). You can check here.

@HeadingtonSch‘s new Head Teacher started her new job this week. Welcome to Headington, Caroline Jordan.

@Oxford_Brookes launched their new website.

@TheMasonsArmsHQ beer festival was on over the weekend, and ran out of beer before lunch on Sunday.

A $75m student residential development will be named Headington Hall in honour of its major donor, OU alumnus Tim Headington. You didn’t know about this? You can stop panicking – that’s OU as in Oklahoma University <sighs of relief>.
