Here is my weekly round-up of news for the week 18 – 24 April.

Strictly speaking it was last week, but the Save Headington Library campaign organised an Easter Bonnet competition and Palm Sunday parade. Shauna Wood won first prize. There is talk of making it an annual event.

Four saplings planted by Windmill Primary School and members of the Low Carbon Headington group at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre were badly damaged by vandals.

It was confirmed that work is set to start on the new Barton Pavilion over the next few weeks. The £350k building will be ready for the new football season.

Oxford City Council’s North-east Area Committee approved plans to build 35 student flats and a ‘retail unit’ on the site of the old Cavalier pub on Copse Lane, Marston. The pub closed in 2008.

The Headington Farmers’ Market on Friday gave people normally at work a chance to see it for themselves and buy local produce.

I thought last week was a quiet one for Headington news, but this week I’ve found even less. Ignoring a report of a fat squirrel resting after eating too many nuts from someone’s bird table, here is my weekly round-up of news for the week 11 – 17 April.

Potentially the most controversial, and bound to feature many more times, Ruskin College’s ideas for developing Ruskin Fields, part of the Old Headington Conservation Area, emerged this week. The Oxford Mail carried the story.

Thisisoxfordshire reported that children ‘from Barton’ had been doing the rounds in Headington asking for phoney sponsorship money. According to the police the problem has now been sorted.

In other police-related news @RuthWilk reported that Inspector Marc Tarbit is now neighbourhood inspector for Headington and Zoe Eeles has replaced Chris Miles as Neighbourhood PC for the Headington area. More police news for the Headington area on Ruth and David Rundle’s joint website.

It was even quiet on the Headington & Marston e-democracy forum. There were only two active topics this week:

Here is my weekly round-up of news for the week 4- 10 April.

It seems to have been a particularly quiet week for OX3 news, but I have gleaned these nuggets for you.

The Street Warden service changed to become the Community Response Team. Community Wardens will focus on tackling anti-social behaviour including environmental crime and enforcement. Whether they will catch the For Sale board arsonist who’s been active again this week remains to be seen.

Concerns and protests about plans to open a bail hostel in Headley Way escalated, with 30 people reported to have demonstrated outside the house last Saturday.

Oxford Brookes announced it will be charging the maximum £9000 tuition fees. Oxford University may make a contribution to the expansion of Thornhill Park & Ride as part of their proposed plans to redevelop some of the Old Road Campus site.
