While the misery of flooding has been on everyone’s mind it’s been a quiet week up here on the hill in Headington. Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 3 – 9 February.

A woman suffered serious injuries at about 10.30 on Monday after falling from a third-floor window at Oxford Brookes University’s Clive Booth Hall (off John Garne Way, Marston).

As the bad weather continued, a fallen tree closed one lane of the A40 near Headington roundabout on Thursday evening.

@JacobsandField‘s new venture @JacobsChopHouse has applied for a licence to open 7 days a week from 08:00 to 22:00 (extended to 01:00 on New Year’s Eve/Day). They describe the operation, set in the old Café Noir premises, as “a restaurant with recorded music” and have applied for a licence to sell alcohol on the premises from 11:00 to 23:00 seven days a week.

After two years @LazygamerUK announced they are closing at the end of the month, but hope to be back in different premises before too long.

Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 27 January – 2 February.

A man from Alden Crescent, Barton appeared in court last Friday (24 Jan) charged with rape. The alleged incident happened near Hythe Bridge Street on 19 January. The man was remanded in custody until 7 April.

@FrogOrange now have a year-round firework licence in their Headington and Jericho shops.

Followers of the 29 Old High Street saga will be excited to know that there will be a Public Enquiry at the Town Hall on 11 February. It’s to determine whether a planning consent from 1974 is still valid. Here’s confirmation from the Planning Inspectorate and here’s headington.org.uk’s history of the site.

Local GP and ex-councillor @joemcmanners has been appointed clinical chair of the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, a key role in the new structure of the NHS.

Police released an e-fit of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident on 16 January (see HH 146) when a car reversed into a PCSO in Wharton Road.

The Oxfordshire Family Mediation centre (125 London Road – Headington shops) moves today to a new location at 33 Iffley Road.

In a case going back to 2011 (see HH 35) the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service announced that Dr Yenugula Srinivas has been found guilty of misconduct following a Manchester hearing in November and December. He was expected to be told after this week’s ruling whether he would be would be struck off, but a separate hearing is now to be held in March to consider his case. Dr Srinivas was originally accused of sexually motivated conduct towards female patients while acting as a locum at several surgeries in Oxford, including Bury Knowle, but was acquitted at his trial in 2011.

A man from Territorial Way, off Horspath Driftway, pleaded guilty at Oxford Crown Court to possessing around £87,000 of drugs and a range of banned weapons – a single-shot handgun, a stun gun disguised as a mobile phone and an incapacitator spray – found when police raided his flat. The trial was adjourned for reports and sentencing will be in March.

Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 20 – 26 January.

BT removed the unused phone box on the corner of Rock edge and Windmill Road.

Three armed men robbed Stan James bookmakers on Roundway on Monday evening.

A woman’s body was found hanging from a tree in Shotover Country Park last Sunday (19 January).

Homes in Sandhills and Barton suffered a power cut on Thursday afternoon, part of a much wider area including Stanton St John, Forest Hill and Wheatley. The power failure continued through the evening. It was caused by a tree falling on overhead power lines. Local power was restored in the early hours of Friday morning after a generator was shipped in from Bournemouth. And no, I don’t know why Bournemouth.

@RyeStAntony School’s play this year is Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” on 11, 12 and 13 February.

The dugout by the football pitches in Margaret Road Park will be removed at the end of the football season. Complaints of antisocial behaviour have been made, it seems. Elsewhere, Cllr @LaurencePBaxter announced that the City budget for 2014/5 includes a commitment to build a new sports pavilion and community facility there.

Headington’s LibDem Councillors launched a new facebook page.
