BT removed the unused phone box on the corner of Rock edge and Windmill Road.

Three armed men robbed Stan James bookmakers on Roundway on Monday evening.

A woman’s body was found hanging from a tree in Shotover Country Park last Sunday (19 January).

Homes in Sandhills and Barton suffered a power cut on Thursday afternoon, part of a much wider area including Stanton St John, Forest Hill and Wheatley. The power failure continued through the evening. It was caused by a tree falling on overhead power lines. Local power was restored in the early hours of Friday morning after a generator was shipped in from Bournemouth. And no, I don’t know why Bournemouth.

@RyeStAntony School’s play this year is Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” on 11, 12 and 13 February.

The dugout by the football pitches in Margaret Road Park will be removed at the end of the football season. Complaints of antisocial behaviour have been made, it seems. Elsewhere, Cllr @LaurencePBaxter announced that the City budget for 2014/5 includes a commitment to build a new sports pavilion and community facility there.

Headington’s LibDem Councillors launched a new facebook page.

Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 13 – 19 January.

Two men, one from Headington, pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 14-year old boy in Bury Knowle Park last year. They will be sentenced in February.

The body of a man in his fifties was found in the grounds of the JR Hospital. Police are said to be treating the death as unexplained but not suspicious.

An on-duty PCSO was assaulted in Wharton Road on Wednesday. A man who had allegedly been acting suspiciously reversed a car into the officer who was taken to the JR with minor injuries. Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses.

Bayards Hill School has been given a notice to improve by Ofsted following an inspection in December.

Information about a new Credit Union in Barton will be available at two public meetings at St Mary’s (Barton) this week, Monday 20th and Friday 25th.

Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 2 – 8 December.

Friday nights are Girls’ Nights Out in Barton, for young women aged 14 – 17. But only from 6.30 – 8.30pm.

Headington cyclist Simon Hunt has taken over from James Styring as Chairman of campaigning group Cyclox @cycloxoxford.

@OxFurniture shut down their not-so-old shop on Saturday evening, and re-open this morning (Monday) in what was Brambles. It must have been a busy Sunday!

Blackburn Close is looking much better now.

A free cash machine has recently been installed outside the Post Office in Risinghurst.

National tree week was marked in Bernwood Road, Barton the weekend before last by the planting of about 40 saplings in Bonny Banks Park.

Barton got into the Christmas spirit with the Barton Christmas Wonderland yesterday (Sunday 8 Dec). A pantomine, face-painting, raffle and tombola were among the attractions.
