Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 15 – 21 June.

Works on the eastern by-pass mean a 30mph speed limit between Cowley and Headington for the next six months while Thames Water replaces the water main that caused severe flooding in Normandy Crescent. Cycle lanes will also be closed at various times.

Risinghurst residents have submitted a formal applicarion to have The Ampleforth Arms registered as an Asset of Community Value.

Choirs from Bayards Hill, St Andrew’s, Wood Farm and Windmill primary schools took part in the Oxfordshire Festival of Voices in Dorchester Abbey on Tuesday.

A person riding a bicycle suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision with a car on Thursday morning. It happened at the Old Road/Gipsy Lane junction: police are appealing for any witnesses.

Work on the new classrooms at @WindmillOxford continues, but people are starting to wonder if they will be ready for the start of the newx term.

The @OXONBIKE hire scheme opened two new stations this week in association with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, one at the Warneford and one at Littlemore. The Oxford Mail carried a report.

Saturday’s rather miserable weather brightened for yesterday’s (Sunday) Old Headington Open Gardens day.

Fire crews went to a fire at a flat in Coleman’s Hill, near the Green Rad roundabout, on Tuesday. A dropped cigarette is thought to have caused the fire. The resident was taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.

The Marston Brook turned bright green on Thursday. It turned out that Thames Water had used a harmless dye to help trace the source of a blocked sewer. For those interested in sewer blockages, this one was caused by an accumulation of solidified fat and wet wipes.

The Mason’s Arms re-opened its main bar after refurbishment.

A rumour circulated that an unknown developer – possibly Keble Homes – might be interested in Blanchford’s site in Windmill Road. The company has denied any knowledge. See the e-democracy forum for the discussion.

Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 1 – 7 June.

As the draft @HeadingtonPlan moves into a six-week consultation period, the first of six drop-in sessions took place on Saturday. Each session focuses on one topic in the plan – Saturday’s was on Amenity & Green Spaces – but you can get information and discuss any aspect of the draft plan. The drop-in sessions are at The Hub, which is on the north side of the London Road east of the lights, from 10am to 4pm. There’s more on the Plan website.

A new hairdressers Kenny’s Hair Boutique @KennysHairBout has opened at 6 Cinnaminta Road.

Nascent cycle club @QuarryVelo is holding a ‘strategy meeting’ open to all on Tuesday this week (9 June), 8pm @MasonsArmsHQ.

Phone lines and internet were disrupted @WindmillOxford school on Tuesday when builders working on the school extension damaged a cable.

The @TheWhiteHartH is advertising for a chef to join their team. They assure me that the gravy is not threatened. They are also looking for bar staff – just take your CV in and talk to them.

Local efforts to preserve the Stansfeld Outdoor Centre as a benefit for the community took another step with a meeting on Thursday to form a Friends of Stansfeld Group.

Another meeting to try to keep a community asset was held on Friday – this time in support of the Ampleforth Arms in Risinghurst. The Ampleforth is noted for being C S Lewis’s local when he lived at The Kilns in Lewis Close.
