A County Council report has recommended that the yet-to-be-built Barton Park School should be run by Cheney Academy, as will be the case for Bayard’s Hill School in Barton from the start of the next term.

Risinghurst’s very own tattoo parlour @OxfordInk (on the Roundway) is opening a second operation in Summertown.

@Stagecoach_Ox announce a new service, the S7, starting on 28 July and connecting Carterton, Shilton Park, Minster Lovell, Witney, Eynsham and Cassington with the JR and Brookes. Scroll down this page to see a little more (no timetable yet).

Chinese take-away chain Hotcha is planning to open three outlets in Oxford – Headington, Cowely [sic] Road and Summertown. Any guesses which shop they’ll take?

Doric Properties, the developers of the controversial and generally unpopular Westway scheme in Botley, used Headington Farmers’ Market to promote their proposals on facebook. Headington Action @HeadingtonA, who organise the Headington market, quickly dissociated themselves from any connection.

A cyclist was attacked in Barton Lane on Tuesday afternoon. A man knocked the cyclist off his bicycle and attacked him with a pair of scissors.

The three ladies of foodie blog @BittenOxford put @JacobsChopHouse to the test. Find out if it was a rare treat or if they gave it a roasting.

The Londis, run by @sundersandher, is being convertedinto a “One-Stop” shop. Sunder’s store in Leamington Spa became a One-Stop earlier this year and he has been enthusiastic about the change. One Stop is a franchise operation like Londis, and for those who get worked up about these things it is a subsidiary of Tesco, who are of course opening their own store on the other side of the road in July.

The Oxford Mail published an obituary of Marston parish councillor Roy Jones.

A U1 double-decker bus caught fire on the westbound A40 near Thornhill P&R on Friday afternoon. The A40 was closed for several hours and traffic was backed up to Junction 8 on the M40. None of the passengers was harmed. There’s no informtion yet on what caused the fire.

The opposite (eastbound) stretch of road was closed again on Sunday (yesterday) evening following a lorry collision and a diesel spillage.

Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 17 – 23 March.

Birmingham City Council voted to close the Stansfeld Centre. Friends of Quarry are said to be thinking about trying to register it as an Asset of Community Value. A new twitter account @SaveStansfeld has been set up to support the campaign to find a solution and keep the Centre open, but has yet to get going.

Three buildings in OX3 have been shortlisted in the South Region of the RIBA architectural awards 2014. I blogged about them.

A fallen tree blocked the path from Quarry Road to Holy Trinity church.

The Britannia re-opened after its refurbishment.

Christopher Gray of The Oxford Mail visited @JacobsChopHouse on a busy evening. There were problems with availability, it seems, but overall he liked it.

Headington Neighbourhood Forum @HeadingtonPlan has published 2011 Census profiles of Headington on its website. There’s a wealth of detail for anyone interested in exploring the data.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the robbery at Stan James Bookmakers at The Roundway last week.

@HeadingtonNews explains on the e-democracy forum why the old Trade Exchange shop is very unlikely to become a Southern Fried Chicken.
