Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 6 – 12 July.

There was a fire in a 14th floor flat in Forester’s Tower, Wood Farm on Sunday evening last week (5 July). Fire and Rescue crews attended, the occupants were evacuated safely and the fire was quickly put out.

Porters at the JR Hospital, who are employed by private company Carillon, have voted to strike over the company’s proposals to cut their wages.

BBB Stores (the household goods store next to the Post Office) has finally ceased trading, according to a sign in the window.

There’s a public meeting about the Stansfeld site today (13 July). Find out who might buy it, and help protect the woodland. It’s in Quarry Village Hall, Quarry Road at 19:30.

@BartonPark_ developers Hill showed the detailed plans for phase 1 of the new development at an exhibition in Barton on Wednesday.

Barton Community Association is looking at the possibility of forming a Parish Council which would bring together the existing Barton estate and the new @BartonPark_ development. Councillor Van Coulter @VanCllrvcoulter (Barton & Sandhills) is backing the idea.

And still in Barton, the City Council has announced that it will make £4.7m available for regeneration projects on the estate in parallel with the building of Barton Park. Just how the money will be spent is still being determined, but residents are promised the chance to have their say.

It was the very last Friday Headington Farmers’ Market on Friday (Aaaaah!). Starting on Saturday 25 July it will become a weekly Saturday market for a trial period. (Hurrah!)

@WindmillOxford was delighted to get an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating after a recent inspection.

Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 15 – 21 June.

Works on the eastern by-pass mean a 30mph speed limit between Cowley and Headington for the next six months while Thames Water replaces the water main that caused severe flooding in Normandy Crescent. Cycle lanes will also be closed at various times.

Risinghurst residents have submitted a formal applicarion to have The Ampleforth Arms registered as an Asset of Community Value.

Choirs from Bayards Hill, St Andrew’s, Wood Farm and Windmill primary schools took part in the Oxfordshire Festival of Voices in Dorchester Abbey on Tuesday.

A person riding a bicycle suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision with a car on Thursday morning. It happened at the Old Road/Gipsy Lane junction: police are appealing for any witnesses.

Work on the new classrooms at @WindmillOxford continues, but people are starting to wonder if they will be ready for the start of the newx term.

The @OXONBIKE hire scheme opened two new stations this week in association with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, one at the Warneford and one at Littlemore. The Oxford Mail carried a report.

Saturday’s rather miserable weather brightened for yesterday’s (Sunday) Old Headington Open Gardens day.

Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 13 – 19 April.

Marston residents will be surveyed about the possible introduction of permit-only parking.

Cheney School Academy Trust has been recommended to run the new primary school that will be built in @BartonPark_. As well as the eponymous secondary school, Cheney also runs Bayards Hill Primary in Barton. A final decision will follow later, but with local support it’s fairly sure to happen.

The site of the old Friar pub on Marston Road has been put up for sale by Tesco after the company abandoned its plans to open a new store there.

An overflowing sewer in Barton caused raw sewage to flow down the street.

Headington Action @HeadingtonA have shared their reponse to Oxfordshire CC’s long-term transport strategy “Connecting Oxfordshire”, or LTP4, on the Oxford Futures website. (Oxford Futures is an initiative of Oxford Civic Society @oxcivicsoc.) Have any other Headington organisations or individuals responded? It would be interesting to see any more.

The planning application (Ref: 15/00858/FUL) to build student accommodation on the corner of Latimer Road is now on the City Council’s website.
