Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 26 January – 1 February.

Traffic woes on the westbound approach to the Headington roundabout were exacerbated on Monday when a manhole collapsed and a lane had to be closed.

The Headington Tesco is not one of the 43 stores the company announced it will be closing (list at bottom of linked page).

Derelict property owner Martin Young, owner of 29 Old High Street, also owns a property on the Cowley Road which the City Council is considering for compulsory purchase because of its dilapidated condition. The house has been empty for over twenty years.

Last year the County Council decided to expand Windmill Primary School @WindmillOxford. Building work to cope with the expansion has still not started and the frustration felt by the Head and others involved with the school broke into the public arena this week.

Two people were arrested at an address in Bassett Road, Barton on Wednesday. They are suspected of handling stolen goods and possession of class A drugs.

On Tuesday Frontier Estates exhibited their revised proposals for student accommodation on the corner of Latimer Road and London Road.

Wood Farm Primary School in Titup Hall Drive has won an award from the British Council for its work in fostering international awareness among pupils, including its twinning arrangement with a school in South Africa and celebrating the many different cultures represented in the school.

The A40 Northern by-pass was closed for a time on Wednesday as police investigated a possible “conceern for welfare” incident on the Marston flyover. A woman was later detained under the Mental Health Act.

Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 28 July – 3 August.

Headington’s Londis closed down last Sunday (27 July). It now stands empty and its future is uncertain.

As one door closes another opens. The new Tesco Express opened on Tuesday morning. The store and its manager are on twitter as @Tesco6880. Also ‘Headington’ is apparently ‘Area 5‘ in Tesco-speak.

Multiple reports of a Big Pong across Headington on Monday evening attracted interest from @BBCPhilGayle and the Oxford Times. Unconfirmed explanations included muck-spreading in the Barton fields.

A van overturned on Jack Straw’s Lane on Tuesday.

The Barton Community Association is reported to be thinking of starting the process of forming a Parish Council. Still some way to go before it happens.

Not news, but a round-up of views on the Barton Park link road as developers confirm a planning application is scheduled for later in the year.

Headington School @HeadingtonSch celebrates its centenary next year and has a website dedicated to the event.

Vice-Chancellor Janet Beer is leaving @Oxford_Brookes at the end of January 2015 to take up the Vice-Chancellorship of Liverpool University.
