Headington Headlines #270

Your weekly round-up of local news for 6 – 12 June.

The heatpipe planning application was submitted to the City Council on Friday. I’ll let you know when it’s online.

As part of the hospital energy project, the chimney at the Churchill was taken down on Tuesday.

All my posts about the project are under the ‘Energy Project’ tab in the main menu, and there’s a page of links and contact details here.

The Access to Headington scheme was approved on Thursday in accordance with the officers’ recommendations, retaining some on-street parking on Headley Way and Windmill Road.

A C Nielsen are proposing to vacate their site next to Thornhill park and ride and for the site to be used for housing. They have submitted a change of use planning application (Ref: 16/01394/B56) which says “Change of use of Nielsen House and annex from office to residential to provide 30 x 1-bed flats and 63 x 2-bed flats. This application is for determination as to whether prior approval of the Council is required.” As I understand it, under current planning rules the change of use doesn’t need permission unless there are adverse transport and highway impacts or contamination and flooding risks.

A woman went into labour on a bus which was stuck in Barton after police closed Barton Village Road  following an assault on an Iceland van driver. The bus driver called an ambulance and the woman was taken to the JR. I don’t know how she is but hopefully all was well. As for the assault, two men have been arrested.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Southern Health admitted responsibility for the death of Connor Sparrowhawk.

Headington Headlines #268

It’s been a remarkably quiet week for news in Headington but here’s your weekly round-up for 23 – 29 May.

@HeadingtonNews spotted this City Council work schedule of tree work that will be done in Bury Knowle Park over the summer. There’s a lot!

The Stansfeld Centre held a well-attended open day on Wednesday.

There will be a debate in Parliament about Southern Health Trust’s failings on 8 June.

The Common People Festival came to South Park over the weekend and my twitter timeline seems to rate it a success. I couldn’t hear it at home in OX3 Towers.

Headington Headlines #265

Your weekly round-up of local news for 2 – 8 May.

OK, they may not play at the Manor Ground in Headington any more but Oxford United are going up into the First Division next season. Well done all of you!

It was local election week. The full results and a brief commentary on the City Council election results for the six wards in OX3 are here, and the result of the Thames Valley PCC election is here. [Spoiler alert! There are no surprises.]

Barton has a new police sergeant. He is David Keith, and apparently was previously wiith the Met.

Frontier Estates, the developers of the student accommodation in Latimer Road, have submitted an appplication to vary one of the conditions for the building to go ahead. They now want permission to “enable the student accomodation to be occupied by cultural and academic visitors and by conference and summer school delegates outside of term time”. It’s worth noting that unless this is called in by Councillors, the decision will be taken as a delegated decsion by the Planning Officer for the case. Given the controversial history of this development we can only hope it gets fully considered.

Beleagured Southern Health Trust has appointed a new Chairman to replace the one who resigned last week (see HH 264). The new man is Tim Smart, who until last year was Chief Executive of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. According to Wikipedia he has an Economics degree from Birmingham University and had a long career as a businessman before joining Kings in 2008.
