It’s been a remarkably quiet week for news in Headington but here’s your weekly round-up for 23 – 29 May.

@HeadingtonNews spotted this City Council work schedule of tree work that will be done in Bury Knowle Park over the summer. There’s a lot!

The Stansfeld Centre held a well-attended open day on Wednesday.

There will be a debate in Parliament about Southern Health Trust’s failings on 8 June.

The Common People Festival came to South Park over the weekend and my twitter timeline seems to rate it a success. I couldn’t hear it at home in OX3 Towers.

Headington Headlines #267

Your weekly round-up of local news for 16 – 22 May.

I went to the heatpipe drop-in exhibition on Wednesday. There were no surprises and if all now goes to plan the digging should begin in September. My report here.

All my posts about the project are under the ‘Energy Project’ tab in the main menu, and there’s a page of links and contact details here.

I also submitted my comments on the latest Access to Headington Traffic Regulation Orders which seek to retain some on-street parking on Headley Way and Windmill Road.

Oxford City’s three ceremonial appointments were made on Monday, and Headington is represented by two of them. @maltafkhan (Headington Ward) is the new Lord Mayor, and Susan Brown (Churchill Ward) is Sheriff. The third appointment is Rae Humberstone (Blackbird Leys) who becomes Deputy Lord Mayor. The appointments all last for a year.

A new community garden is to be delivered at Barton Park together with improvements to the existing community allotments.

@oxfordtimes reports that the first @BartonPark_ homes will start to be built in July.

The old Jack Russell pub in Marston is falling into dereliction and becoming a target for vandalism. Local residents want security fencing installed.

Quarry’s Holy Trinity Church held its first Eco-festival on Sunday with stalls and talks covering a range of environmental activities and issues.

Your weekly round-up of local news for 9 – 15 May.

There’s a planning application (ref: 16/00968/FUL) to build housing on one of the Lye Valley garden plots immediately adjacent to one of the rare Lye Valley fens. @friendlyevalley are concerned that “acceptance would set a disastrous precedent for development all along this precious green corridor”. They ask for support: the deadline for comments and objections is 26 May. For more info see their web page.

A torrential rain storm on Wednesday afternoon caused flash flooding in Headington Quarry and at the bottom of Bayswater Road in Barton.

The application by Frontier Estates to build a 55-bed care home on Pullen’s Lane (see HH249) has been withdrawn. An earlier application by another developer in 2014 was turned down.

The traffic lights at the Headington roundabout failed again on Wednesday and were only restored by 9.00 on Thursday morning. Morning traffic on the A40 was delayed by up to an hour or more.

@ScienceOxford is holding an Open Day to show their plans for the Stansfeld Centre in Headington Quarry. It’s on 25 May from 1600 to 2000.
