Headington Headlines #262

Your weekly round-up of local news for 11 – 17 April.

A rather quiet week this week, apart from a story that I suspect will become quite big ………

A major planning application came to light this week. It’s for 57 houses and apartments on two sites on the edge of Barton and Bayswater Farm in South Oxfordshire District. It involves demolishing two houses on Waynflete Road (in Oxford City) to provide access to one of the sites.

A young woman suffered an attempted sexual assault in Headington Hill Park early on Wednesday morning. Police are linking the assault with two other recent incidents, one on Old Road and one on Pullen’s Lane, and are apppealing for witnesses and information. On Sunday a man was charged with sexual assault in relation to the incident.

Headington Headlines #261

Your weekly round-up of local news for 4 – 10 April.

Work started to repair the drains on the corner of London Road and New High Street. It is scheduled to be finished today (Monday).

@theoxfordtrust has circulated 7000 copies of a leaflet in Quarry and parts of Headington setting out their vision for the Stansfeld site.

The traffic lights on the A40 at Sandhills/Thornhll (aka ‘Headington’ according to the BBC) are the worst in the Thames Valley Police region for drivers jumping the red light, apparently.

Estate agent Connell’s is moving from their small premises next to the ‘coffin alley’ and Bury Knowle Park into the larger shop vacated by Allen & Harris.

Nothing seems to be happpening in the shop next to the closed Post Office that used to be BBB Stores. There’s been no sign of activity since some display cabinets were delivered many weeks ago. The rumour at the time was that it is (was?) going to be a butchers.

Headington Headlines #260

Your weekly round-up of local news for 28 March – 3 April.

With the added complication of The Lime Walk Alternative (my new indie band name) it looks like we won’t be seeing any heatpipe roadworks this side of the summer holidays. @RuthWilk explains in the e-democracy forum.

All my posts about the project are under the ‘Energy Project’ tab in the main menu, and there’s a page of links and contact details here.

Headington Action @HeadingtonA is asking local businesses to sponsor hanging baskets this summer. £100 each.

Unofficial Oxford United FC goods were being sold in Headington in the run-up to the club’s Wembley appearance on Sunday. As @OUFCOfficial pointed out, none of the money paid to unofficial traders goes to the Club.

The local campaign to get the City Council to remove parking spaces from outside thei planned new pavilion at the Margaret Road recreation ground seems to have been successful. Headington Quarry FC would still like to see further improvements to the changing facilities.

Feather and Black are closing down.

To the great disappointment of campaigners led by @friendlyevalley the City’s Planning Review Committee gave planning permission for houses to be built on green land in Warren Crescent above the Lye Valley.

My favourite OX3-related tweet of the week:

There’s a more serious story behind the picture though, about rat-running and speeding through the narrow streets of Quarry.
