Report Published

I have received a copy of the Consultants’ report on the Headington Transport Strategy. It is in two parts, which you can download from the links below. I haven’t had time to absorb it yet but first impressions are that it describes the present situation rather than setting out a strategy for dealing with the acknowledged problems. Indeed, the main report describes itself as a “Baseline Conditions Report”. There’s plenty of tables of data and quite a few maps: how up-to-date and reliable I can’t yet say.

As far as I know the County Council has not yet announced any public consultation on the report. I will post more on this when I can.

Headington Headlines #150

Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 10 – 16 February.

Developers @BartonPark_ announced a start on site involving the clearing of some trees and hedges.

The home of John Henry Brookes, after whom Oxford Brookes University is named, is on the market for £1m. It is in The Slade.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, opened The Highfield Unit, “a state-of-the-art NHS facility providing specialist inpatient services for young people aged 11 to 18 with acute mental health needs” at the Warneford Hospital on Thursday.

The next stage has been reached in the preparation of Headington’s Neighbourhood Plan @HeadingtonPlan. The application to the City Council to ‘designate’ – i.e. agree – the area covered by the plan has been put out to public consultation. Details and links on the Council’s website. The consultation closes on 28 March.

A man from Saxon Way was sentenced on Tuesday to five month’s imprisonment for a racist verbal attack on his girlfriend’s neighbour.

Warneford Lane is closed for roadworks for approximately three weeks. Bus route 4 will divert via Gipsy Lane and Headington Hill.

Although it didn’t seem to make the mainstream news, there were reports of a meteor being seen widely across England on Saturday night. @jjhutchings wins the prize for the first report from Headington.

Headington Headlines #149

While the misery of flooding has been on everyone’s mind it’s been a quiet week up here on the hill in Headington. Here’s my weekly round-up of local news for 3 – 9 February.

A woman suffered serious injuries at about 10.30 on Monday after falling from a third-floor window at Oxford Brookes University’s Clive Booth Hall (off John Garne Way, Marston).

As the bad weather continued, a fallen tree closed one lane of the A40 near Headington roundabout on Thursday evening.

@JacobsandField‘s new venture @JacobsChopHouse has applied for a licence to open 7 days a week from 08:00 to 22:00 (extended to 01:00 on New Year’s Eve/Day). They describe the operation, set in the old Café Noir premises, as “a restaurant with recorded music” and have applied for a licence to sell alcohol on the premises from 11:00 to 23:00 seven days a week.

After two years @LazygamerUK announced they are closing at the end of the month, but hope to be back in different premises before too long.

My favourite Headington-related tweet of the week:
