The advisory cycle tracks at the top end of Headley Way have been removed and the central white line shifted. ‘Cyclists Dismount’ signs appeared but after protests they were removed on Tuesday afternoon. The County highways engineers said they had been mistakenly left after some earlier work for which they were needed.

County Councillor Glynis Phillips (Barton, Sandhills & Risinghurst) is pressing for the right turn from the A40 into Collinwood Road to be re-opened for the duration of the sewer repair works which have closed Green Road. She says temporary traffic lights would prevent the kind of accidents which happened on the A40 before the junction was closed.

The closure of the Six Bells pub in Quarry is confirmed. Greene King are looking for new tenants.

Back in November last year, shortly after the new Westgate opened, I wrote a critical article about the lack of cycle parking spaces at the new development. I was sceptical about whether the promised number of spaces required under Westgate’s planning conditions would ever be provided. Now eight months later it seems the requirement might almost have been met. Exact numbers are still uncertain, but the Oxford Mail reports Cyclox as being fairly happy with the latest situation.

Your weekly round-up of local news for 23 – 29 April.

And so it (almost) finally begins! The much-delayed Access to Headington work on Headley Way and Cherwell Drive will start on 14 May. The work is forecast to run until March 2019. Here’s what the Oxford Mail had to say about it. Some people are upset that several trees have been felled in preparation for the work. The County Council has said they will replace all the trees that will have to go, but of course any new planting will take some years to grow to youthful maturity.

Congratulations to @TheMasonsArmsHQ. They are champions of the Oxford & District Bar Billiards League Division One.

Well done too to La Croissanterie café on Old High Street, which earned a maximum score of 5 in the latest Scores on the Doors hygiene ratings.

Gardens in Old Headington will be open for the National Gardens Scheme on Sunday 13 May.

Construction work has started on the new neurological research centre at the JR. See where it is on the plan in HH 346.

It’s now 18 months since a controvesial planning application was submitted to build housing in Wychwood Lane, Risinghurst, adjacent to the C S Lewis Nature Reserve. Nothing seems to have happened since; the papers for the last East Area Planning Committee show it as “still awaiting additional information”.

I couldn’t resist this one. Headington School is advertising for a Head of Strings.

It’s been a bit quiet in OX3 this week. Here’s a rather sparse round-up of local news for 16 – 22 April.

Oxford High Street will be closed to traffic from The Plain to King Edward Street from 0200 to 0900 on May morning (Tuesday 1 May). The ban includes bicycles, both ridden and pushed.

@RuthWilk reports that a roadworks alert database indicates the Access to Headington work on Headley Way may start this week.

A full planning application to build one 3-bed and two 4-bed houses on the site of The Quarry Gate has been submitted and is on the City Council website (ref: 18/00939/FUL).
