Headington Headlines #286

Your weekly round-up of local news for 3 – 9 October.

@OUHospitals has installed a mobile operating theatre outside the Women’s Centre at the JR. It’s a temporary gynaecology theatre providing more space for births in the Women’s Centre.

At last Katrina Percy has had to acknowledge that continuing to work at Southern Health isn’t a viable option for her. Here’s the Trust’s statement. The BBC reported she would get a payoff of “about £190,000”.

@CRAFTBurgerOx, opening where Dong Dong Noodle Bar was in Windmill Road, are on twitter. They open their doors at mid-day on Tuesday 11 October – that’s TOMORROW!

Costa coffee has submitted a planning application for a drive-through coffee shop at Headington Retail Park (as no-one calls it, or ‘next to Homebase’ to give it its proper name).

Aldi are recruiting for their new store on the same site.

The Oxford Trust has submitted a planning application for the new science education centre it wants to build at the Stansfeld Centre in Quarry.

The route of the Oxford half marathon on Sunday passed through Old Marston, meaning several roads were closed for a few hours on the day. Parish and City councillors are upset at the organisation’s lack of consultation and its unwillingness to listen to residents’ concerns, which is a shame because it sours what is otherwise a worthwhile and fun event. Here’s a picture of runners not passing through Marston.

The West Area Planning Committee is expected to give planning permission for a change of use which would allow @thespiritoftoad to set up an ‘artisan distillery’ on the site of the old Council depot at the top of South Park (see original story from June this year in HH 269). There is a restrictive covenant on the site which prevents the production and consumption of alcohol: the Council’s officers dismiss this as “not material” to the planning application but say that it will “need to be resolved separately with OPT” (Oxford Preservation Trust). See the Committee agenda paper here (para 26 on p. 8).

Headington Headlines #266

Your weekly round-up of local news for 9 – 15 May.

Vital Energi and the Hospital Trust are holding two community drop-in sessions to show their latest plans for the heatpipe connection between the JR and Churchill Hospitals. Both sessions are this Wednesday, 18 May. Details here.

All my posts about the project are under the ‘Energy Project’ tab in the main menu, and there’s a page of links and contact details here.

There’s a planning application (ref: 16/00968/FUL) to build housing on one of the Lye Valley garden plots immediately adjacent to one of the rare Lye Valley fens. @friendlyevalley are concerned that “acceptance would set a disastrous precedent for development all along this precious green corridor”. They ask for support: the deadline for comments and objections is 26 May. For more info see their web page.

A torrential rain storm on Wednesday afternoon caused flash flooding in Headington Quarry and at the bottom of Bayswater Road in Barton.

The application by Frontier Estates to build a 55-bed care home on Pullen’s Lane (see HH249) has been withdrawn. An earlier application by another developer in 2014 was turned down.

The traffic lights at the Headington roundabout failed again on Wednesday and were only restored by 9.00 on Thursday morning. Morning traffic on the A40 was delayed by up to an hour or more.

@ScienceOxford is holding an Open Day to show their plans for the Stansfeld Centre in Headington Quarry. It’s on 25 May from 1600 to 2000.

Headington Headlines #263

Your weekly round-up of local news for 18 – 24 April.

Vital Energi have withdrawn their heatpipe planning application again and will be using planning consultants to help them get the scheme cleared for construction. A route from All Saints Road via Lime Walk is now preferred to the original Stapleton Road line. Read more here.

All my posts about the project are under the ‘Energy Project’ tab in the main menu, and there’s a page of links and contact details here.

It seems that Oxfordshire County Council’s decision last year to end its contract with the heavily-criticised Southern Health Trust for specialist adult learning disability services could take up to two years to wind down.

Headington has its very own drone expert.

Feather & Black has closed.

A cash point next to McDonald’s at Roundway was apparently blown up in a raid early on Saturday morning.

The date for the County’s decision on the latest Access to Headington scheme proposals has been put back to 9 June to allow for more consultations. See here for more details.

The City Council has submitted a revised proposal for the Margaret Road recreation ground pavilion, this time without parking spaces.

The website of the Oxford Trust, who are taking over the Stansfeld Outdoor centre site, was a victim of the 123-reg hosting service’s mass deletion of sites in a “clean-up error”. They are still available on twitter @scienceoxford.
