Your weekly round-up of local news for 7 – 13 May .

The expected planning application by Frontier Estates, locally notorious for their Beech House development, to build a 55 bed care home at 1 Pullen’s Lane has been published on the City Council website, ref: 18/00870/FUL. I’ve updated my timeline of this proposal, and a there is a location map here – the boundaries of the site are not accurate but are the best I could do on Google maps.

Old High Street made the national news – well, The Sun newspaper at least – when the road was blocked by an altercation between a cyclist and a motorist. It all took place in “the village of Heddington”, apparently.

Here’s an enthusiastic description of the 1960s houses on Dunstan Road. Designed by architects Ahrends, Burton and Koralek, they are described as “[walking] a fine line between modernism and brutalism”. One is being sold by @ScottFraserUK at a guide price of £900k.

2000 homes in Quarry and eastern Headington were affected by a Virgin Media loss of service on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The shopkeeper of the Premier store in Salford Road, Marston was threatened with a broken bottle on Tuesday evening. Despite another customer calling the police at the time it was 20 hours before the police responded. Story c/o @TheOxfordMail.

London Road was closed to traffic in both directions from 8pm (actually 7.30pm on Thursday) to 6am overnight on Thursday and Friday nights.

Hmmm. Jacob’s Brasserie is “closed for refurbishment” with no indication of a re-opening date. It looks like Dragon Express has closed too.

A red Honda moped was stolen from the garden of a house in Masons Road, Wood Farm late on Thursday or early Friday. Police are asking for any information.

And finally, the Headley Way Access to Headington roadworks start today (Monday). Happy days!

Your weekly round-up of local news for 30 April – 6 May.

The City Council elections were held on 3 May. The results for the six wards in OX3 are here, with a brief commentary.

One Labour ex-Councillor at least knew where to place the blame for losing Quarry & Risinghurst to the LibDems.

There was also an election for seats on Old Marston Parish Council. Thirteen candidates stood for twelve vacancies; the unlucky number thirteen was Barrie Lewis-Canham.

Another significant stage in the development of Barton Park; in the past week or two the first residents have moved into the Mosaics development. I saw it first in this video and Mosaics have confirmed it is indeed true.

Phoney parking notices have been spotted (and reported) in Sandhills.

@theSpiritofToad, the artisan distillery in South Park, has been nominated in the LEP New Business category in the Oxfordshire Business Awards. The winners will be announced at a black tie dinner at Brookes on 15 June.

Your weekly round-up of local news for 23 – 29 April.

And so it (almost) finally begins! The much-delayed Access to Headington work on Headley Way and Cherwell Drive will start on 14 May. The work is forecast to run until March 2019. Here’s what the Oxford Mail had to say about it. Some people are upset that several trees have been felled in preparation for the work. The County Council has said they will replace all the trees that will have to go, but of course any new planting will take some years to grow to youthful maturity.

Congratulations to @TheMasonsArmsHQ. They are champions of the Oxford & District Bar Billiards League Division One.

Well done too to La Croissanterie café on Old High Street, which earned a maximum score of 5 in the latest Scores on the Doors hygiene ratings.

Gardens in Old Headington will be open for the National Gardens Scheme on Sunday 13 May.

Construction work has started on the new neurological research centre at the JR. See where it is on the plan in HH 346.

It’s now 18 months since a controvesial planning application was submitted to build housing in Wychwood Lane, Risinghurst, adjacent to the C S Lewis Nature Reserve. Nothing seems to have happened since; the papers for the last East Area Planning Committee show it as “still awaiting additional information”.

I couldn’t resist this one. Headington School is advertising for a Head of Strings.
